What type of wing liner am I wearing ?

"When in doubt just WING it out"

The one thing I've struggled with in my professional life is being a morning person. Keep in mind I am always up early. Let's just say I am not the most pleasant when I don't have my morning tea. (Not a coffee drinker) Moving along, During my morning commute I am always so fascinated by the women on the go like myself. These women basically turn NJ path train to an at home vanity. It's really amazing to see these women do a full face of make-up during train movement with little to no mistakes. I love to witness the eyeliner piece the most. Surprisingly a lot of the women who look like they could potentially have the same work routine have the same selection in make-up. Clearly I'm always on this Hoboken line.  I am no expert but my eyes are. I have the sickest photographic memory and I think this works out perfect for my field. Below I have put together a list of different style cat eyes named after some of my favorite NYC places and professions. If you happen to find any of my choices relatable to you share this with a friend or meet me on any of my social platforms and say hi!!!.

The 9 to 5

The classic bar eyeliner. Mostly seen on Women who are on the go who work in a office setting. You prefer and extra minute to snooze on the train vs. doing a full face.

Christopher Street

Very similar to a smudged panda eye this is a lightly smudged black eyeliner. Most likely your profession is in fashion, you could possibly be the manager of a fashion boutique. Fashion is def your forte in some aspect.

The Barista

This Whinehouse eyeliner is ideal for the for barista. Youre sure to find her at your local coffee shop (this is a networking hub) Barista by day and Acting school or Broadway by night.

Grand Street

The cut edge wing liner has the width of a cat eye without the drama of the wing. This liner is a pinch more bold then your classic bar eyeliner. You can catch this cut edge wing in a restaurant she's the general manager.

The Yoga Instructor

This downward flick wing liner is just enough when not wanting to wear too much. This super black waterproof eyeliner is here for all workouts.

Bryant Park

The soft wing smoky half liner is found at a popular dry bar or private salon. This darling might as well do make-up because her make-up is always stunning however hair is her niche.

The Brow Expert

This dark charcoal cat eye is self employed she owns her own brow and lash salon in the Union Square area of Manhattan.

When I have a special occasion is it better to do an at home service or at a makeup counter?

When I have a special occasion is it better to do an at home service or at a makeup counter?

I know, I know this sounds like simple math. What drove me to write this article was younger sister who is a young professional in the cooperate world she works in the fashion industry. My sister is an Artist but is a make-up beginner.  Deciding what steps to take outside of her normal day-to-day routine. My sister has a flawless routine thats perfect for work. However wondered what would be the best alternatives for her special occasions. There are perks that come along with both environments. I honestly must say I don’t prefer one more then the other. The atmosphere would go according to your personal needs and preference.

Make-up counter:

The cool thing about getting service at a make-up counter is that if you are press for time this setting allows for you to be in and out in a set time frame. Most make-up counters spend 45 minutes up to an hour for a face. Most cases the make-up you purchase is redeemable in product. So if there is a time were you need replenish anything from your make-up system this would be ideal because you can kill two birds with one stone for one price.

At home makeup service:

The same feeling you get when you do take out. You want what you want but are way too lazy, too far or too busy to get it. One of the perks you have when being serviced at your home is the level of intimacy with the person who will be doing your makeup. Its private you don’t have to worry about interruptions because it not a store setting. If you don’t like running around with no makeup on this is also another option for you. This also leaves room for minor changes if you don’t like the way your make-up looks once you are dressed.

Beauty, Fitness & Health with Personal Trainer: Body Gawd

"Live life with no REGRETS"

Atlanta Personal Trainer: Body Gawd

I'm Tasha, aka Body Gawd. I'm a personal trainer based in Atlanta GA. I specialize in 'health wellness. I love food, therefore I have to workout everyday for the rest of my life. I'm very open honest & I try to be as truthful as possible when it comes to health consciousness.

What got you into such an intense work out routine?

I’ve always been an athlete since I can remember however life started happening & I went to college & gained weight. I got into a relationship & gained more weight lol. It was really just me becoming more conscious of my health & how I was going through life that made me change. I wasn’t necessarily trying to lose weight, I just wanted to be healthy & I haven’t turned back since then.

How often do you work out a week?

I work out at least 5‐ times a week, & sometimes more than once in a day

What foods do you avoid?

I stay away from soda, candy, cookies. All sweets in general because they are so addictive. I also stay away from chips things like that because I loveee salt & it is definitely  not my best friend

What’s the biggest misconception about you?

I think that there are 2 big ones. The first being that just because I’m curvy have a nice body that I’m either a vixen model or a stripper. The second is that I’m not very smart. I think people look at me & compare me to the vixen types of women & automatically assume that I’m not smart because of that. But I am very very intellectual lol.

If you were a smoothie what would you be?

If I were a smoothie I’d be a mix of peach, papaya, mango. I absolutely LOVE mango but overall its a very tropical fun flavor I’m all about being outside in the sun & having the most fun I can.

When do you feel most beautiful?

I feel most beautiful  when my makeup is slayed my curls are poppin

What’s in your make‐up bag?

I have at least 4 different products for my brows lol, liquid liner, bronzer, matte foundation, a nude lipstick, & concealer. The basics.

What’s your favorite feature?

My favorite feature is my hair, my cheekbones, & my boo‐tay lol

What polish color would you wear on a special date and why?

I would wear black because I love black & I just feel like its sexy & mysterious.

How important is diet while working out?

Diet is so important. People think you can out work a bad diet but you cant. if you work out but eat the same as you did before, your weight will never change. Your body will just balance out.

Where did the name “ Body Gawd” come from?

So I started out as CurvyFitt & that just came to me because I knew my abilities as far as exercising but I’m not your “typical” trainer. Switched it to BodyGawd recently because I feel that I’ve reached a new level as far as my business & just overall as a person.

Where is your favorite place to workout? Do you find a gym necessary?

My favorite place to workout is outside in the summer. Its definitely not necessary to have a gym because in the beginning of my journey I didn’t have one. So to all of the people who use that as an excuse, you can stop now!

Who’s your dream client to personally train?

Personally I don’t have a specific person in mind, but I would love to do a show about helping women who are overweight lose weight & show that as far as fitness as health, there isn’t a certain type of “look”.

What area do you focus on most working out?

I do lots of cardio, abs, & of course lower body exercises the most. I get cut up really easy, so I don’t have to focus so much on arms, back etc.

Why don’t you believe in waist training ?

I don’t believe in waist training because it’s a temporary fix. It also damages internal organs plus most women who wear them aren’t even wearing them properly. I personally know people that have scars & tissue damage from wearing waist trainers so I don’t suggest that anybody wear them.

Do you suggest buddy workout vs. solo work outs?

I started out on my own & at times it got boring & was very easy to get discouraged so I definitely suggest partner workouts as long as you've the same general goals

Whats next for BodyGawd?

Traveling is definitely in the vision I have for myself. I want to go to different places, give people good workout inspire them to keep going. I’m building my brand so I’ll be starting a youtube channel soon with workout videos tips more. I really just want to show women that no matter your size or shape, you can be whatever you want to be & to be inspired by yourself. be your own bodyguard.

How do I get a good make-up system on a budget ?

How do I get a good make-up system on a budget ? Guide to getting bang for your buck on a 100 Dollar budget.

I've never been a Women who can spend 10 dollars on a dress and 100 dollars on shoes. I'm all about balance and sometimes balance is about money in the right places.  When I touch on budgeting I must say that buying high end names doesn't make a product anymore effective then a product you pick up in a drug store. I think spending more on the right items are more effective. I put together a chart that can be a guideline when shopping on a budget I also have put together links and suggestive purchases when trying to stick in this budget. The good thing about a budget is when you spend less in one area you are able to spend more another area without exceeding your overall budget

This Chart is generated based off the most common areas women shop. Feel free to tailor this to match your makeup needs. Example: Exchanging eyeliner for brows (Probably something I would do)

Eyeliner & Mascara:

there is so much flexibility in this category. Believe it or not I've purchased some really high end Mascara's that would cause me to tear all day because of the fragrance. Then I would grab a pharmacy brand and my lashes would look amazing all day.

Primer & Foundation:

Primer & Foundation collectively take up more then half of your budget. I am a firm believer that this an area you don't want to cut cost to much. Get a good primer to protect your skin because you can end up paying for this in the long run. Even if you decide to get a decent primer and foundation that's less pricy go for a good primer.

What are 5 products Men should start out with when shopping for skincare?

Guy's treat your skin before its too late. Getting your skincare routine down is priority with aging. I mean besides both Men and Women want to prevent signs of aging and don't openly admit that. The 5 products I've selected are super low maintenance and can be done a mixture of during and after the shower.

Men often think skincare routines are too much. Up keeping your overall appearance is never too much. Protecting your skin from sun damage and the effect being in the city has on your skin. Maintaining your skincare routine allows you to minimize the appearance of pore which is extremely common amongst men. Men tend to sweat more then women so the pore size is a little bit more visible. Maintaining your Man-Care can also help with break and ingrown hair from shaving or barbershop.

Urban Decay B6 complexion spray

The vitamin B6 spray is a unisex product. This is an easy tool to use when leaving the gym. This product reduces redness helps to minimize pores,  ingrown hairs and sustains breakouts. This can be used directly after washing face in the morning, after the gym or at night as a treatment.

Boscia Black Mask

The Boscia Black Mask should be used once or twice a week. Although men can handle a little abrasiveness . Doing mask too frequently can strip your skin of its essential oils. This black mask will brighten your skin. Smooth out the texture of skin. As well as get dirt and oils out of your pores. Being in the city there is so much floating around.

Recap Step Suggestions:

  Nighttime

11 Options For Braids This Spring

I can't emphasize enough how much braids are trending again. As seen in previous post braids have made there way to runways for 2016. This trend has changed from the traditional straight cornrows to multiple styled braids. The benefit of wearing braids is if they aren't applied to tight they protect your hair from heat for a while. I find this is a easy method when wanting to do hair treatments or deep conditioners that require long sit times. Braids can be dressed up or dressed down depending on your choice of style. As demonstrated find different braid options to fit your spring and summer style. Braids are perfect for beach days. Braids are also ideal for the everyday women on the go who doesn't have time to manage or upkeep straight hair or curls. When removing braids you are also able to achieve a wavy wet hair style look that can be worn additional days after.

Boscia Skincare Review

You’re never too old to become younger – Mae West.

When selecting my skincare, I always start with the intent to actually try it. We are all guilty of buying something cosmetic trying it 3 days and complaining when it doesn’t work.

Skin takes a little time to adjust to new products. Skin also takes time to stop the way it reacts from the former products you’ve been using.

My skincare routine has been much more mild and my skin has been amazing as a result. Skin naturally repairs it self so don’t be too abrasive and interfere with the process. I don’t use a Clarisonic anymore and believe it or not with consistency my skin is in the best shape it’s ever been.  I am not saying to throw your hard earned money in the trash. This is my personal preference and I am extremely happy with the results.

I use the mask one a week or before I am headed to a special occasion.  The cleanser I use night and day as well as the moisturizer.

Maliboob Job | Floss Gloss

There is no Mystery Here; I am always on the hunt for a good polish.  My brand of choice is normally Floss Gloss.  I am never disappointed. The wide color variety I easily find colors that suit my needs. The color pay off is intense. The polish doesn’t chip and it dries down very fast. Everything you can ask for.

Looking for Neon colors to experiment for spring. I tried Maliboob Job, which is a new addition to the Floss Gloss color catalog. This bright florescent pink is absolutely amazing and looks great but different on all complexions. Inspired by a mix of the iconic and elusive Los Angeles billboard babe, Angelyne, plus a little attitude and determination of a young Anna Nicole Smith.  All that wrapped up in a mansion deluxe set in the Malibu hills

The bottles are small but normally last me up to 5 polishes with hands and toes.  The vintage gold top looks amazing on any vanity.

Quitting Your Day Job & Pursuing Your Passion: Interview with Melissa Butler

Melissa Butler, Owner or The Lip Bar

Melissa Butler, Owner or The Lip Bar

What inspired the creation of The Lip Bar? Frustration with my job! Upon graduation, I moved to New York to work on Wall Street. It didn't take me long to realize that I wasn't happy and then I decided to stop complaining  and change my situation. If I would've loved my job, The Lip Bar may not be here. But I was hell bent on getting out of there and never being in a similar situation. I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit - the line of a business was a complete shot in the dark. But only in darkness can you see the stars.

Where are you from? Detroit

Favorite childhood hobby? Ummmmm that's tough. Talking back to my mom, just talking in general. I talked way too much! My mom prob wanted to strangle me. Sorry Mom.

What sparked your interest for beauty? I came from a finance background and was a frequent purchaser of lipsticks. Never a big makeup girl, but I've always loved lipsticks. A while ago, I decided to be better to my body. You get what you give, right? So I began taking more holistic approaches: I stopped eating chicken and turkey (I already didn't eat beef or pork) and I began reading the labels of what I put on and in my body. I was disgusted

at all the chemicals I was digesting. That was the end of my eating and using super toxic products and when it came to lipstick, it was impossible to find products that were fairly natural in their origin. And the natural cosmetic companies were utterly boring. I knew I deserved better and so, I created better and decided to share it with the world. Quality cosmetics can and should be made without the excess crap, and with that idea, my interest in beauty along with The Lip Bar was born.

Describe your everyday makeup look? I'm very simple when it comes to makeup. I don't get too crazy and it barely looks like I have any on. I normally dab on a little concealer under my eyes. I'm obsessed with eyeliner and mascara, I put on a light bronzer, a blush shade one shade darker than my complexion and of course, I finish with a pop of color on the lips. No shadow, no contouring, no highlighting, no foundation.

What's currently in your makeup bag? An ingot freedom pallet with blush, stila eyeliner (I'm gonna try the liquid one next, I'm such a wimp), MAC concealer, mascara (could be Givenchy Phenom eyes, Benefit They're Real or anything else. I always try mascara) and about 10 Lip Bar lipsticks. You never know what could happen.

Who is your muse? The Universe

How did you come up with the name for The Lip Bar? It's called The Lip Bar because I thought it was a really good way to make lipsticks fun and to encourage self-expression. Oftentimes, we rely on cocktails to ease and or reinvigorate our moods. And far too often, we allow the media or men to dictate what we look like. Name it The Lip Bar was a stance against the standard of beauty that we adopt. It's my way to give the same courage to women as cocktails give them to pull out that thing that's buried and hidden within- their uniquely beautiful selves. It's the marriage of fun and unapologetic self-expressions.

"Everyday you work for someone else; you're following their dreams"

What color would you wear to a first date? Interesting question. i don't have a particular color. It's more of a style. Always feminine, bold lip color, but never too sexy. And it's never 100%. I don't want a guy to fall head over heels with my looks and only see that.

What do you feel is missing from the beauty industry? Individuality. Everyone tries to look like celebrities and I hate it with every fiber in my body.

Name one color from The Lip Bar that best describes your personality? Hot Toddy (a brick shade). It's bold, but mature. Striking but subtle. Sexy but classic. Sassy and spontaneous. It's confident and out to prove nothing to anyone by itself. Wait. We're talking about lipstick. Hahahaha.

When awesome things happen, I'm genuinely happy but I'm never drawn into them. It's because I'm very ambitious and almost expectant of milestones. The way I see it, the only way is up. That may sound cocky but  I don't mean it as such. Even unforeseen events that disrupt my initial plans are all learning lessons. So when I get amazing news, I thank god and I move forward. Otherwise, one can easily get complacent and complacency is the enemy of progress.

Refinery 29 feature: What???? This is crazy!!!! As I jumped up and down. Being sold on nylon's website: What???? how do they even know we exist? This is the coolest sh*t ever.

Being sold on Urban Outfitters: I got in the shower and prayed. Thank the Universe for another chance in pursuit of my goals. Being featured on The Bethanny Show: I'm going to be on TV???? My mom is going to freak out. I hope TV doesn't pack on an extra 10 pounds.

One quote you live by? Happiness is a choice.

How do I Discover What Type of Makeup Artist I Am?

A few weeks ago I decided to go makeup shopping, keep in mind most of my makeup shopping is done online. Buying makeup wasn't the plan and I honestly hate going to buy makeup when my face isn't put together. I feel I'm often judged and overlooked. Makeup is my forte and I still need help occasionally, we all do. I'm in a makeup store that will remain nameless. Approached by a consultant with the most amazing makeup on her face. What's the Value of a Makeup Artist?

Currently in flight on my way to Vegas for a 3 day work trip. Nearly missing my flight and running the entire airport like a marathon. Sometimes you question yourself "Is the hustle worth it?" Of course it is. I propose the question because as a makeup artist we spend time compiling a resume of work and taking several gigs that sometimes lead to dead ends. What's the value of a makeup artist?

We've all noticed the makeup industry is overly saturated, however your current value shouldn't be based off of the state of the industry. Face it we haven't witnessed Celine drop the price point off of purses because of plethora of knock off versions in various retailers. This means trusting your expertise and understanding the value of your work and setting yourself at that price point.

When creating rates for you this shouldn't be based off of the competitiveness of the market. Rates should solely be based off of your experience and expertise. This works in both aspects if you haven't gained experience in your industry you should scale back in terms of what you charge. The best way to gain experience in your field is by exchanging your free time and services for experience or print work.

Speaking from experience I found myself adjusting my rates because of the competitiveness of the market. Clients asked why don't you charge more? your level of work and your overall presentation is worth more than what you are charging. I firmly believe in charging your worth, be selective, all business isn't good business. Sticking to this mindset, I've been able to book more quality work.

Limbo | Colour Pop

Looking for a good lip color but on a budget, let's start here. I try all products before writing any reviews. I give them a little wear, this is really important for me. Several times I've been in search for a direct answer on if I should buy a product and how it functions, I'm not given a direct answer or I don't believe what I'm reading. Working in the cosmetic industry makes me super apprehensive.

I am always in search of a good Nia Long brown lipstick. I am stuck in the 90's makeup routing and don't want to grow up. Needless to say I hoarder most brown lipsticks and probably own everyone that exists. Since I have this obsession, I am way more conscious of the amount of money I spend on lipstick, in order to avoid spending too much money on a lipstick that I will only wear once or twice.

I stumbled across Limbo from Colour Pop and instantly fell in love. Most good quality lipstick ranges anywhere from $15-$20, this one costs roughly $6 and I still consider this a good quality lipstick. Quality isn't always in what you pay but how much you love it. I am partnering this liquid lipstick with a matte lip color from Colour pop called Taurus. These will be my two favorite browns for February and March. I normally switch every two months.
