5 DIY Mask Face, Body +Hair

Written by Pepper .B

Hey Everyone, after spending extra time in my kitchen these past few days as well as spending more time researching. Exercising better care of myself and my plants. I thought about revisiting the DIY mask topic. Most of the time my followers respond saying they are too busy and don’t have enough time. When I reposted this poll recently, I discover that 62% answered yes to doing a mask at home using Ingredients in their kitchen now being in quarantine. I put together some fairly simple mask for the face, body and hair. All ingredients are listed below. Please share if you create any of the mask below tag us on social media I would love to see how they turn out! Feel free to store the aloe mask in the fridge for a few days in a mason jar if you produce a bigger batch. The coffee scrub can be stored up to 2 months in a jar. Place this mask in a place that is room temperature the mask/scrub can liquify if stored in an area that is too warm. I typically use this as a mask and a scrub I apply it all over the body. Allow it dry and then scrub gently and exfoliate it off the body. The clay mask for body can also be stored but must be stored in a jar with a tight-fitting lid because it can dry out. All other mask are friendly for one time use in order to keep it fresh.

The Honey Pot Review...I've Been Dying to Post!

Written by Pepper.B

Hey Everyone! I’ve been dying to share my post on the honey pot but to be completely honest I wanted the controversy to die down. I know that seems like more of a reason to offer my insight on the products, however these products served a purpose for me long before the uproar. I wanted to share a review that wouldn't get mixed up in all of what was going on. Can I first say I LOVE feminine products created by women. Not to mention this brand is planted based I WAS SOLD. I started using the honey pot about a year ago when visiting the Essence Beauty Carnival. I started off with a travel size of the sensitive wash, wipes and spray. I used the travel size until it was completely finished. Surprisingly it lasts a decent amount of time for a travel item. The product is very concentrated and does not feel watered down at all. There is no need to pump your life away because the product foams and does lather a lot. I am normally pretty sensitive when it comes to feminine products however this one gave me no sort of irritation. After purchasing the full sized product in sensitive, I became fond of the wash which then became my go to product. I, in addition, I used the spray for my clothes after dance class before placing them in my bag. The spray isn't meant to be used directly on your lady parts which I prefer. I transitioned in to using the normal wash by accident. I was out of wash and my target only had the normal wash available so I gave in. Initially it felt a little different however, no irritation but I did dilute it some with purified water. Out of the two I do prefer the sensitive however the normally after a few times of use is working just fine. In fact I replenished the normal more then once.  I got an opportunity to meet the founder at the carnival and it was very nice to see how passionate she was about her product!

I rate the sensitive 4.5 because this is extremely mild but effective I think this is a great way to start introducing yourself to the brand.

Ingridents: Lavendar, Grapefruit Exactract, Calendula, Apple Cider Vinager + Colloidal Silver .

Price Point: 5.0 out of 5.0

I gave the normal formula 4 out of 5 because the formal is a little bit more concerntated. if you are easliy irritated you may prefer the sensitive formula.

Ingridents: Coconut Oil, Apple Cider Vinager, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Colloidal Silver + Lavendar .

Price Point: 5.0 out of 5.0

If you are following me on instagram or twitter I talk a lot about the think dirty app. Which is a great way to reseach how clean your natural or plant based products are. Under the think dirty app Honey Pot is listed green for clean based on their ingredient list. Which is add bonus in this review process.

Share your thoughts below in the comments and let me know what you think about honey pot!

6 Beauty Tools You Need Under $40 For Home While in Quarantine:

Written by Pepper B

So…. We’ve been in quarantine and now the grooming needs are starting to kick in. Hair, nails, pedi , waxing and unkepted skin. I think a big part of not losing your mind while in quarantine is self care. One thing I’ve noticed personally is not being as consistent with my skincare routine. Which is very rare for me because i spend a lot of time working on my skincare. With all of whats going on right now lets not add forgeting about ourselves to the equation. Heres my short list of beauty tools that are used to help you with grooming while at home. This list is budget friendly each item us under 40

Billie Shaving Kit 9.00

Billie is by far one of the best shaving tools i’ve used. The billie shaver gives you a very smooth shave. The price point is great and the magnetic attachment for the shower is a bonus. I havent used this all over my body. I focus on underarms, legs and arms however many people rave about using this from head-to-toe.

Le Mini Macaron Gel Manicure Kit $35.00

This add on was a little selfish in attempt to tackle a personal need. Since we are home more often i cook alot. and I AM TIRED OF DOING DISHES!! yes! i said it. I’m speaking for a few of us lol. At home manicures as of lately have been my thing and what i find is they dont last. Here is a pocket sized gel manicure kit to get the job done. This is not a pro nail set however it will hold you over until you can get to your pro again.

Homedics Pedi Spa 25.00

This category is self explanatory. If getting a pedicure is a part of your regular routine and you would like to maintain them heres a good option. You may even just be looking for a way to pamper yourself at home. Grab some roses and oil and soak using this pedi spa.

Zorra 4 in 1 Nano Ionic Large Facial Steamer 34.99

Based on your lifestyle getting facials done on a regular basis may have been apart of your routine. With the current limitations taking place for the beauty industry. Services are limited and this may be a challenge. I love the Zorra steamer i think its great quality for the price. This also comes with extration tools however if you havent use these tools before i would suggest being very careful. I love steamers for locking in moisture.

Bliss waxing kit: 22:00

Enter at your own. Based on what your current grooming methods are waxing may be a necessity for you. Right now its almost impossible to get a wax because most waxing salons are closed down due to Covid-19. I decided to share an at-home-waxing-kit. Some people dont feel comfortable waxing themselves and I get it. Here is a great choice if you are feeling daring. I think the price point is great as a starter because if you feel as though this isnt for you the price point isnt a great loss.

Chefman Skincare Fridge 39.00

I know what your thinking a fridge! we are trying to montior spending for essentials. If you can justify buying one I definitely see why preserving your skincare during this time would matter. A skincare fridge would help extending the self life of your products as well motivate you to stay consistent with your routine. You can store your serums, moisturizer mist and eyegels

The Conditioner + Detangler That Helps My 4B/4C Curls Flourish !

Written by Pepper B

Rating 4.5 out 5.0

When I fall in love with a shampoo or conditioner I’m set. Leaving a good conditioner is almost just as hard to change as my foundation. My hair is really dry and styles best on thoroughly moisturized hair. I have a 4B/4C hair and my coils love to be hydrated. Living on the East coast this was an extremely dry winter with minimal rain so I noticed my hair was even more dry. After recently getting my hair straightened which is not something I do not do that often. My hair started to look a little dull and lack luster in its curly state. Needless to say I was devastated I started my search for a new shampoo and conditioner. I stumbled across the Creme of Nature Pure Honey Collection.

When working with my hair type or texture, my hair absorbs oils better while my is wet. I implement the LOC method to retain moisture in my hair. I normally like to go for same shampoo and conditioner but to be completely honest I couldn't locate the entire system at once. I am currently using the Raw Shampoothie for shampoo. After following this up with the conditioner it did wonders my hair felt like a fluffy cloud (which is my favorite) this lets me know that the product didn't weigh my hair down. I normally part my hair in four sections in order to distribute the upcoming products a little bit more evenly before my twist out. The leave-in detangler is a little more fluid like in texture. The texture makes it very easy to work with and little product goes along way. I do think in the future I would love to try the traditional leave in conditioner considering it is a little more light weight.

The price points are very reasonable for the entire line:

Shampoo: 6.99

Conditioner: 6.79

Leave in detangler: 7.96

Breakup leave in conditioner: 7.99

Twist Cream: 7.99

Hair Mask : 7.99

Setting Lotion: 5:69

Edge Control: 9.00

One thing I love about the collection is the smell I love that the smell is extremely soft and not over powering. Products that have an aggressive fragrance tend to be a deal breaker for me. I have a bad bee allergy and strong smells take me back to the time last summer where I got chased down by bees because of the smell of my hair. All things considered I think creme of nature is a no fail. Especially if you are looking for something that is affordable yet effective. After reading other reviews regarding this product I think hair texture does matter if you don't like products that are a little rich this may not be the product for you. If your hair is dry or if it lacks luster and needs a little hydration you will be very please with this product.

Please share your thoughts below and let me know what your favorite product is from the line.

14 Juice Recipes for Boosting Your Immune System

“14 Juices Made to Boost Your Immune System”

-Pepper .B

Hey Everyone! I’ve decided to create this simple post because I get questions about this on social media pretty often. Juicing is apart of my routine because I like them. I genuinely love the way I feel after drinking juice especially green juices or juices with ginger + beets. If I have time, I make them myself at home if not I get juice from the local juice bar or support businesses I like on social media. I also like to use some of the recipes below when I’m at my juice bar. With their current menu I find a lot of the juices get boring after a while. This allows me to mix a few things to my liking.

Please keep in mind when I juice using exact measurements, doesn’t always work for me, lol I don’t follow instructions I follow what my mind and taste buds tells me lol. Majority of these recipes are for juicing but can be used for smoothies as well. When I reference using coconut water in my juice as the base, I normally put coconut water in my pitcher first before I juice my fruits and for smoothies I use coconut water as a substitution for fruit juice or actual water.

If you have any cool recipes please share in the comments below!

6 Facial Oil Ideas While its Still Freezing Outside.... Keep Your GLOW

Written by Pepper B

If you live in the East coast i’m sure you are over the cold weather. If you’ve noticed your skin is a lot more flaky and dry this season it could be due to lack of moisture in the air. Although we hate snow during the winter it helps with moisture in the air. Considering we haven’t received much snow this winter the cold is even more brutal. Regardless how oily you are moisture is needed during the cold months. Moisture helps with the appearance of your skin overall and really helps the skin to keep that luster. Having oily skin oils have always been hard for me. However oils truly balance oil. During the winter I use a moisturizer during the day and oils a night. I do feel safe using oil both day and night depending on how dry my skin is. Please see below some of my favorite oil recommendations. All oils vary in price.

Side Note:

I love oil mixed with make-up if you have extremely dry skin.

I love a little ( very little with emphasis ) oil mixed with cream blush for dry skin.

Fenty Snap Shadow Swatches !! Find out which one is my favorite

Written By Pepper:

Hey Everyone Quick Post! I happen to play around with some of the new eyeshadows from Fenty! I wanted to share what some of the swatches look like on my skin tone! There are 8 palettes at 2 for 45.00 on Fenty’s website . Which is a good price point because generally I would buy these in two. Perfect to mix textures and colors!

I’ve been thrilled to see the launch of the new snap shadows by Fenty Beauty. I’m a huge fan of small shadows I do truly believe less is more! The shadows snap together which is so great for travel. The texture of them are buttery and pigmented. Generally when traveling I take a warm neutral palette and a color palette as back up for a little pop. Considering the size I wouldn’t mind traveling with a few of these palettes.

After swatching the palettes my favorites are shade 3, 6, 7 and I’m still deciding about 4 because I have so many shadows that fall in that range. 3 I think is ideal for a medium to deep to skin tone for an everyday look. This will also serve great as a neutral palette the browns and burnt orange are great transition colors on a deep skin tone. These are the shades I normally pull when creating a look on that shade range. 6 come on! if you’ve been following me for a while you KNOW I am a smokey lover and that is my go to! 7 surprisingly I love the warm yellow and rusty green I think would layer beautiful with gloss on top.

Please share a comment below and let me know if you’ve tried and which ones are your favorites!

5 Natural Deodorants That Are Must Haves For Summer 2019

Written by Pepper B

I am not the only one who can feel the transition in the weather! FINALLY! I mean it’s only been winter and spring for a year. When it comes to natural deodorant I in the past for me either we don’t agree, they don't last and I smell crazy or they burn my under arms. At first I struggled with getting discoloration under my arms ! Yikes! Normally discoloration under the arms comes from the baking soda found in a lot of popular natural deodorants it was a horrible process! also scary. Moving past discoloration and testing different types I found one that really worked for me. I’ve finally gotten past the detoxing process. When using natural deodorant after transitioning from normal types you may notice you perspire a lot more in the beginning.

Week two after detoxing from regular deodorant is the most difficult you may feel as if the product doesn't last and you smell worse. As the weeks process you will notice that your body starts to adjust. Allow a full 30 days for your underarms to completely detox!

Here is my list below I have tested each one in various settings and I approve these for summer.

Side note for the past few months i’ve been using Kopari & I LOVE IT!

10 Herbs You Need That Will Help Maintain Skin Health 2019

Written by @Downtownpepper

When thinking of flawless skin, it’s hard not to think about my wallet and credit cards at the same time. Maintaining beautiful skin doesn’t have to cost you a ton of money we are just trained to think this way. We think hey “The more expensive the moisturizer. The better it works” in some case true in most cases not so much. What drove me to share a few items that are practical and easy to find. I have been working on my personal budget and being cost conscious Is a priority for me right now. Which means eating out only on the weekends ( if necessary ) . Waisting less product by completing one product prior to starting a new one. Lastly making a great effort to use natural items that I can locate personally in my routine. During a trip to the supermarket a couple of months ago, I saved myself 14.00 dollars on one product. After currently using a store bought aloe mask for my hair as a treatment this became a routine for me. After researching the Ingredients I discovered that the mask didn’t really contain that much aloe. Although it was effective it had a ton of other ingredients. In the market I found an aloe leaf for 2.49. This cost 14.00 dollars less than the mask I purchased. Using the plant worked completely different ( better ) not to mention being able to use this for other things was a bonus.

Basil

Basil is extremely useful if you live in a big city with tons of pollution and smog. As basil can help the skin with environmental damage. Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Helps skin with itching and irritation. Using boiling water steep herbs for a minimum of 4 hours allow herbs to cool down completely and splash face.

Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel is also an anti-inflammatory this can be used as an astringent or toner for the skin. Witch hazel is great for tighten the skin and pores while softening the texture of your skin. It’s personally apart of my daily skincare routine and has helped tremendously.

Turmeric

Turmeric is great for the skin if you suffer from hyperpigmentation, scars or acne marks. Turmeric helps to diminish darkness. Turmeric also brights complexion beware Turmeric can stain the skin for a few days when using it if it is not mixed with other items such as milk or honey.

Rose

Rose is extremely popular you find rose water in a lot of skincare routines. Roses contain anti-inflammatory and antibacterial compounds (which goes well with acne-prone skin), are rich in anti-aging properties, and are known to nourish, hydrate, and even help tone and rejuvenate the skin.

Carrot Seeds

Carrot seed is rich in vitamin A & E and is very rich in beta-carotene. It helps to balance moisture in skin. It is great for extremely dry skin and that may feel tight and crack. Carrot seed oil increases the resistance in skin to sunlight it is also one of the best skin lighteners.

Sage

Sage is amazing for oily skin and or acne prone skin. Sage is anti-inflammatory and will help subside break on the skin. One of the best ways to use sage is mixing steeped sage with ACV and using this as a toner or astringent.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera I believe should be in your kitchen or house if you grow one at all times. Like most of the items above aloe vera is a true multitasker. Aloe vera fights against acne and gives the skin a healthy nourishing glow , when using it in the form of a face mask. It is very rich in vitamin C & E which are very important for skin health. Aloe Vera softens the texture of your hair and adds luster back to the hair. Aloe very is ideal for burning or itching as it soothes the skin but will also kill bacteria due to its anti-microbial properties.

Lavender

We associate lavender most with calming the area which is very true. Calming the area is great for you skin also. Skin looks better when you are in a great in mood lol. Lavender is also great for keeping the skin firm and preventing wrinkles.

Calendula

Calendula is an oil extracted from the marigold flower. Calendula is great for anti-aging as it helps cell turn over and cell repair. Reduces inflammation and is great for scars and wounds on the body. Great for a skin that may suffer from eczema and works to relieve diaper rash.

Burdock Root

Burdock Root is great for extremely dry skin. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of the root can help resolve skin issues when it's applied topically to the skin. Burdock has been know to treat eczema and Psoriasis.

Why I Started Tea Rinsing, How It Changed My Hair!

Written by Pepper B

During April 2018 I decided to stop wearing protective hairstyles as a whole and embrace my natural mane. One thing I immediately discovered while taking this journey is how clueless I was about my hair. This wasn’t the beginning of a natural journey for me for over eight years I hadn’t worn a perm or applied intense heat on my hair. I just didn’t want the hassle of dealing with my hair so I wore several protective hairstyles. Such as weaves, closures, braids and faux locs.

After dealing with the stage of “training” hair I realized maintainability with natural hair was a lot of work that I didn’t have time for. When I got very lazy I would pull my hair in a tight bun or put my hair up in a pineapple with tons of products. This method was horrible it caused me a lot breakage and hair loss.

This drove me to find to find alternatives that would work for promoting hair growth. Prior to this I’ve always strived to find items that would give my hair tons of luster. Since a child I have had an ashy brown hair color naturally and it cause my hair to appear dry because of the color.

Benefits of Tea Rinse:

  • Promotes Hair Growth and Luster.

  • Reduced Shedding and Breakage.

  • Many tea rinses restore or brighten your hair color.

  • Helps with dandruff dirt and excess oil on the scalp.

The Best Way to Tea Rinse:

  • Using loose leaf tea start by stepping the tea 4-8 hours for the best results. I normally do this the night before wash day.

  • Clean scalp thoroughly rinse hair. Allow tea to sit in hair. Based on preference some prefer to leave tea in without rinsing. My best practice is rinse my scalp with tea allowing it to sit for a few minutes. Prior to rinsing my hair add my deep conditioner followed by rinsing both out together.

  • Adding tea and water to spray bottle to refresh hair during the week. This method last longer when keeping tea refrigerated. ( must be amazing in the summer )

“According to the American Academy of Dermatologists, it's normal to lose

anywhere from 50 to 100 strands of hair per day”

After taking a break from doing tea rinse the entire fall I decided I started to tea rinsing more consistently and tracking my progress. I noticed a complete difference when taking a break.

January 10th 2019

January 21 2019

What’s been working for me:

  • Avoid piling product in my hair as the days progress only methods of hydrations.

  • Tea rinsing every 1-2 weeks.

  • Less stressful hair styles when work starts to get hectic and I know I don’t have time to love my hair LEAVE IT ALONE. Loose braids or twist with oil under my turban has worked for me.

  • Grace Eleyae silk lined Hat / Cee Cee’s Closet Silk lined Turban.

  • Silk or satin ponytail holders.

Grace Eleyae sill lined cap

Moral of the story is tea rinsing has helped my hair tremendously. Being mindful of creating my own hair damage and not doing The MOST. Sometimes less is really more. Less stress on the hair and more hydration. I have allowed my hair to have relax days instead wearing extremely tight hairstyles!

This No Frizz Hair Care Line is your First Defense Against Humidity

Danyelle Valentin // @bufferingbetty

When your love for big hair turns ironic.

With frizzy hair, even the slightest presence of moisture in the air ruins your low slick back ponytail into a swirly mess.

Don’t doubt for a minute that I don’t love every inch of my hair. I can manipulate it into anything. There are certainly cute frizzy hair days.

But THIS is not one of them so these are the days that we need to embrace the power good hair care.

The first step for managing frizzy hair is identifying why your hair swells 3x it’s actual size in the first place. Frizzy hair means that your hair is on the dryer side; regardless of your hair type. For me, it’s, 1, I was born this way, and 2, using hot tools in my hair. Using heated styling tools to smooth my frizz just creates more of what I’m trying to, not eliminate, but keep well below Hagrid levels. I also shower with hot water. I know it’s bad for my dry skin and hair but I can’t help it!!!!

So, if you were born this way, the first thing you need to do is ACCEPT and EMBRACE your frizzy hair. Almost nothing can correct nature. There are dozens of ways to style your hair where frizz adds an exciting element of beauty. We see it on the runway all the time!

Note: I wouldn’t be mad if my hair looked like that every day. And I do mean that big too!

I also need to accept that I am damaging my hair with heat and products that dry it out -only making it frizzier. What are your habits that effect your hair?

Frizzy hair be like 0 to GODDAMN in 5 seconds. You’ll think you’re going to have a great natural hair day and POOF. Your hair had other plans but you were already in your car on your way to happy hour and now you have to enlist ‘the bun’ to save you. -Just me?

To keep your hair fierce rather ferocious, prepping your hair starts in the shower. The Living Proof No Frizz shampoo and conditioner left me blown away the first time I used it. It has continued to impress me every time I wash my hair. I’m on my third set!!! Do you remember how nice you’re hair felt before your discovered hot tools and styling products? Or do you feel slightly jealous of your baby cousins’ hairs because they just look so healthy and untainted by the pressures of adulthood? Yeah. that's how good my hair feels and looks with this combo.

Most ‘no frizz’ hair care lines I’ve tried leave my hair weighed down. I. Hate. Flat. Hair. The Living Proof combo is everything. My hair looks and feels so healthy. My wavy hair texture is at peak waviness when I let it air dry -even with no added product. Are you paying attention! NO ADDED PRODUCT! I get compliments on my hair when I use this shampoo and conditioner.

On second and third (+ so on) day hair, I use the Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream. It brings down the frizz to a socially acceptable level. I keep mini ones with me at all times! One in my purse and one chills in the cup-holder of the front seat of my car. It doesn’t act as a smoothing oil which works to eliminate all signs of frizz. Like I said, I love my frizzy hair. I just like to not walk around looking like I haven’t brushed my hair in 3 months. The styling cream gives more definition to my waves without making my hair heavy.

This next product is not part of the Living Proof line BUT it is a ‘holy grail’ level product for keeping my hair in shape. The Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Balm-to-Oil Pre Shampoo Masque -ya need it. Just to keep it simple; you need it. Damage in my hair always shows on the ends. This masque makes my hair look like I just got it cut. It’s boujee salon level excellent that you can do at home. I would just avoid using it directly before styling your hair because it is so rich that your hair will just fall flat.

Have I told you how I’ve crowned myself as the Sample Queen -because I have. You can be too! Try all of the Living Proof products I wrote about in this travel kit they put together.

No Frizz Smoothing & Frizz Fighting Travel Kit

For the days when the frizz factor will not be controlled. always keep some sort shield with you. It could be a hat, headband or scarf. For me it’s at least 4 bobby pins to create a secure bun and a hair tie for when I can’t be bothered. Frizz happens fast. Don’t let them catch you slippin’!

From the moment I emerged into this life, I have had frizzy hair. As a child, my mom saturated my sisters’ and my hair with Infusium leave in conditioner. In middle school, to control the frizz, I coated my hair in Pantene Pro V mousse or any brand gel -I had one that tinted my hair blue and made it as hard as plastic. I’d pull my hair into a high side ponytail with a scrunchie! In high school, I discovered the blow dryer but only used it the night before school to “let the frizz settle overnight” -I still do this sometimes.

I fully embrace my hair! I often try something new: blonde, blue, purple, bob, bangs, braids. and all of the things!

If all else fails, live in your Diana Ross- big hair, don’t care-moments!

The Ace Edit - August 2018

We are officially halfway through Summer and the real heat has yet to hIt New York City. I’ve recently had to make some beauty/lifestyle changes to adjust to these dog days of summer.

MAKE PLAY

We all know I’ve been barefaced most of the summer, slathering nothing but SPF on my face. Just because I’ve been minimal doesn’t mean I’m boring. I do like to play. What I live for is a good base. Lately Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundation has been supreme. just a few dots here and there and blended well. I even use foundations as a tinted moisturizer. The shade 240 just matches my skin perfectly and that is rare. I just want to enhance my natural glow honey. Once you find the perfect base everything else falls into place. For eyes , the Natasha Denona “Camel” palette is an everyday dream, no one’s shadow formula can compete with hers. For fun colors and shimmers I do live for Colourpop, I’m like an OG fan since the days of “Bae” and “Rex”. I’m not really wild with bold color yet I still like to play around with it. With Colourpop I’m not spending major coin but the quality of product is superb!

Curls Curls Curls Curls… Curls I Do Adore

I unexpectedly went natural. I didn’t plan on it, it just happened during a dark time last year. Stress and Depression made my hair falling out in little clumps. I went into hiding for 7 months, just coming out here and there. Since I wasn’t going anywhere except work, I didn’t feel the need to do my hair anymore. I had stopped putting high heat and/or chemicals on my hair and just washing, rinsing and using hair oils and a hair gel that is free of shitty chemicals to slick my hair back and lay down my baby hurrs.  I also started cutting it more often which has been aiding in my hair growth. You know how they say you have to fall in order to rise up. Taking those months and having time to myself allowed my hair to be repaired and for the texture to improve and for my strands to become thicker and my curls... well,  actually becoming curls again. For The first time ever, I can say that I unapologetically love my hair.

SILKY AF

The struggling battle with my Keratosis Pilaris is ongoing and I’m looking for new products everyday to get it under control. Currently it has been super uncomfortable in this heat. Frank Body came all the way through with their Coconut Body Balm. My Skin Soaks it all up while leaving me with a silky gleam.

The skin on my face has been silky smooth thanks to Drunk Elephant’s T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial. Smoothing out my texture and renewing my skin leaving me with a pretty perfect radiance. I use Glossier’s Solution for daily exfoliation, while using this treatment once a week or bi weekly. IT IS CRUCIAL THAT YOU ALWAYS FOLLOW UP ANY PRODUCT CONTAINING AHA/BHA WITH SUNSCREEN!

Vital Beauty

A good night’s sleep can actually set you up for a much more positive day. It all begins with preparations like investing in the right sheets (Find out if you’re a hot or cold sleeper… it has helped me out in finding the perfect material for me to snooze in). I’m a hot sleeper so cotton percale sheets from Parachute and Brooklinen have been amazing. Plus, the less that I sweat at night, the less breakouts I wake up with. I prefer my sheets in a calming shade and/or clean, uncomplicated prints.

Setting up the perfect nighttime routine, from using a soothing lavender body wash, a dreamy bath bomb, a drop of Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Night Oil to a relaxing cup of té de manzanilla.

Clean, sleek PJs make me so excited for bed. I love bralettes  and sleep shorts from Aerie, They are affordable and make me so excited to get ready for bed. Preparing for bed makes me look forward to getting some rest and waking up more positive, motivated and ready to take on the day.

GOALS

I Love Starting fresh. It makes me feel like I can achieve anything. I’m entering a new chapter with a new job and with it I want to just start fresh from the inside out. TRACKING MY WATER INTAKE BECAUSE DEHYDRATION IS REAL EATING CLEAN AND HEALTHY. COMPLETELY CLEANSING MY BODY AND FILLING IT WITH NUTRIENTS. Taking my daily vitamins, being active, even if its the bare minimum. Let me clarify, This isn’t about size. Slender, Pudgy, Plus… You can actually be healthy at any size. You don’t have to be skinny to be considered healthy (Have you seen Ashley Graham, Iskra Lawrence, Jessamyn Stanley?) Just being pro active in your life regardless of the number on the scale or on your jeans. Taking action and making healthier choices that are perfect for YOU, so that YOU can be the best and healthiest that you can be and most importantly… HAPPY.

IRL Makeup Test: Lip Palette

@bufferingbetty

Testing form over function

An IRL Makeup Test means taking beauty products, makeup trends, routines, etc. off of social media and bringing it into your real life.

Related: WTF is Happening on Instagram

Ya'll I'm a Virgo and practicality is the name of the game. There are a few beauty products on the market that seem like great ideas but lack all form of function -like loose powders of any type. I’m sorry, but you know having to hold your breath during application so it does not blow all over your vanity and clothes while praying you don't drop the jar causes stress-induced gray hair. Just press the powder.

The one type of product that seems totally non-functional to me is a lip palette. Of course, lip palettes are perfect for traveling makeup artists but what about for a traveling Danyelle? In using a lip palette, am I expected to concoct a color and then travel with the whole palette in my bag all day while trying to remember which 4 colors and their respective ratios I mixed to then blend together all over again so I can re-apply the color after devouring brunch. AND PACK A BRUSH TO APPLY IT. Nah. It just seems ridiculous. Sure, I could just wear one color but who does that.

My test subject is the BH Cosmetics’ lipstick palette, Nude Lips To Go, which, incidentally, is exactly what I am seeking to know: will this palette actually be ‘to go.’ The palette includes 6 shades of a rosey, plummy, and peachy tones of lipsticks that could work as a nude for a wide range of skin tones. There is a creme finish to these pigmented panned lipsticks. The shades don’t have a ton of longevity but wear down to a stunning stain on the lips. It’s actually my favorite thing about these colors.

The palette comes with lip brush that sits right inside the palette to get you out the door. Or so it wanted to be. The brush is tragic. Brushes that are included in a palette have a reputation for being of low quality and probably just a way to increase the price tag of a product. In the case of the BH Cosmetics Nude Lips To Go palette, it is a pretty spot on summation. All it did was leave my lipstick patchy and streaky. It isn’t the formula of the lipstick or my amateur application because when I used my lip brush, which also happens to be from BH Cosmetics, the lipstick went on like butter. Oh and the best part - it left little hairs coated in lipstick standing in spikes all over my lips. It was gross

I chose to wear the darkest shade in the palette. It isn’t nude on me but I just LOVED the color. Look at me feeling myself in this blurry selfie putting my dark circles on display asking for a nap. Yes, girl!

The lip palette is small. It fit in my makeup bag with no problem. It’s takes up no more space than a compact mirror. Since this product is ‘to go,’ I think that it should have come with a mirror. I would have preferred a mirror than the hot mess of a brush it came with. The packaging doesn’t close very tightly so I kept my fingers crossed that It wouldn’t pop open and make a mess of my bag. It didn’t!

It took the palette with me to a self love brunch where we had some of our merch for sale!

Meetpepperb Shop

This is a picture of how the lipstick looked after about 3hrs and a mimosa. It rubbed off on the center of my lips so I reapplied the lipstick.

The little gold lip brush is not the lip brush that came with this palette but I was not going to use the one that did ever again. After the first time I reapplied the lipstick, I noticed how messy this whole experience was gong to be. Even when I cleaned off the excess product from the brush before putting it back in the palette, there was still just smears of lipstick everywhere.

After brunch, it was time to reapply again. Shout out to me for yet another blurry selfie featuring a dirty mirror. I have way more confidence using a lip brush when I’m in the controlled environment of my vanity with my magnified, lighted mirror than I do in a single stall, poorly lit bathroom. I really didn’t like how messy the palette was getting. I was the only one using it but the smears of lipstick and the sticky brush just made me think of all the bacteria that could be collecting in the pans. I found myself wishing that this lipstick was just in a tube.

I cleaned most of the lipstick off with a tissue but it if you’ve ever gotten lipstick on anything, you know how lipstick just clings to everything it touches.

I am just an average biscuit who loves makeup. I’ve taken the palette out a few times after this event to see if I needed to get past the ease of just retouching lipstick from a tube. But I didn’t. Each time I had this palette out in the real world with me, all I wanted was the lipstick to come in a tube and call it a day. It is just too messy.

Toners For Dry Skin: you might need more than one!

@bufferingbetty

We're just a little high maintenance in this dehydrated corner.

It's funny how just a year ago I wasn't even sure of what a toner does. More accurately, I was skeptical of toners even serving any skincare benefits and not just a scam to get beauty junkies to buy more of the industry's promises of perfection in a jar. Fast forward to Summer 2018 and your favorite squishy beauty blogger has got a few toners sitting in her cabinet.

About my skin:
I have normal skin that leans dry If i'm not careful. The seasons play a starring role in how my skin behaves. In the winter, my skin needs a wild amount of attention. The heat in the summer makes my skin a little oily but the extra SPF I apply to my skin can dry out certain areas like my forehead and cheeks. In the fall, my skin just -ugh, perfection!!! And in the spring, we cool.

Having a few toners is more than me just being high maintenance. No, really! My skincare has always been responsive. I look at my skin and focus on how it feels. It tells me what it needs.

At our last Meet Pepper B present's Beauty Hour event, we had skincare expert, Niambi, teach us about natural skincare. She is the creator of Pholk Beauty formally known as Bloomsbury Square. Niambi said, "my skincare is a conversation." It was one of the night's major takeaways.  Instead of doing the just same old routine, pay attention to what your skin is asking from you.

Soothing and Hydrating Toner:

The Esteli Coco Rosa Hydrate Toner Mist has brought some balance to my life. Toners I had been using were too potent to use daily. I like to use this toner on days when I have exfoliated my skin because it feels gentle and hydrating. I spray it on a cotton round apply it to my face to ensure that I'm getting all of the goodness all over my skin. I don't like the smell. It's slightly rosy but has a spicy note to it. I've said in the past how I don't have a great sense of smell. If you blindfolded me and put a plate of strawberries in my face, I probably guess that the scent is coconut. It's just not in my skill set. That said, there is something that is zesty and just off about the scent. But I like how my skin feels when I use this toner, so I look past it. I also use this to remove excess oils from my skin before I use an epillator for my uninvited, unnecessary, ladystache. This product also claims to be makeup setting spray or a skin refresher but I don't agree. Lastly, a tip I picked up at #BeautyHour with Niambi was using a toner before a mask to prep the skin. This toner has come handy for that too!!

And not that it really matters, but I just love the color of the bottle. Deep, jewel tone-ish shades of green bring me so much zen.

Retexturizing Toner:

United State Balancing Tonic by Origins has been a part of my life for almost a year and I'm ready to put a ring on it. There were spectacular changes to my skin with this product. On the corners of my jaw, below my ears, I have been getting rough textured skin. It was a build up of dead skin. I didn't want to use a physical exfoliator too often because that tends to break out my skin. This balancing tonic was able to remove the dead skin without damaging my skin. I just have to use it sparingly on my nose because it's more sensitive. I cannot use this toner after sun exposure or using a physical exfoliator because my skin just doesn't like it. This is more of a winter product while the Esteli toner I can use year round.

Honorable Mention - The Gram or YT Made Me Buy

Social media doesn't always influence my purchases. I stalk the "new" or "just in" sections of Sephora, Ulta, and Beautylish so much that I am already a quarter of the way through a product when I see my fave vloggers hauling it. Which always prompts me to think "Yuh been sleeping, gurl!" It doesn't happen often, but when it does the product is usually -eh. Hype is just hype. I grabbed the mini version of the Mario Badescu  Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater while standing in the checkout line at Ulta. It's a trap because it was only $5 so I didn't give it too much thought. Plus, I had been wanting to get a toner with rosewater. It gives excellent hydration that doesn't last. I've been using it this summer as a quick hydrater after being in the sun or to freshen up my face after the gym so I don't have to over use my moisturizer. She's not cheap. If you want a product like that, this can fill that need but don't expect sparks to fly when you use it.

What toners are you using?

The Ace Edit - Summer 2018

Welcome to the first ever ACE EDIT! Filled with my current obsessions, my top shelf, health and mental guide and goals. A digital seasonal/monthly journey to achieve an outer and inner glow.

Summer is the season when I embrace my most natural state. I put down the blow dryer and opt for a fro or ballerina bun. I’m usually bare faced unless I’m going out on some random evening. I like to go for walks along the river and stop at bench to gather my thoughts and write out my feelings, iced matcha in hand, just taking in the season... and uncomfortable heat.

TAN TIP: Put some Colourpop Loose Highlighter into your bottle of Suntan Oil, You will glow like a mermaid while getting bronzed.

SUMMER SKIN

Lately I just really care about protecting my skin and having it naturally glow. Have you seen Ashley Graham’s skin lately? She has been my inspiration. Clean, gleaming, healthy skin. I like to use a simple daily routine using all Glossier. Starting with Milky Jelly Cleanser, then I exfoliate  with Solution  to balance and even out my skin’s texture as well as preventing and clearing any blemishes. I step in with Priming Moisturizer RICH because I’m a dry ass bish. I finish it off with Invisible Shield. I know, it’s not waterproof but this shit doesn’t break me out which 99.9% of sunscreens do! Plus If you are using any products like Solution that contain AHA, BHA and PHA IT IS CRUCIAL THAT YOU USE SUNSCREEN.

SCRUBBA DUB DUB

I’m really obsessed with exfoliating my body and scrubbing off the layers of sunscreen and sweat from a long hot day. I love Lush’s Ocean Salt, I also scrub my face with it a couple of times a week to give that clean brightening effect. Lush’s RUB RUB RUB works great too and smells so damn divine. I tend to concentrate on the areas where my keratosis pilaris is apparent af. I do love coffee scrubs from FRANK BODY for those areas affected with KP as well, I just don’t love the way it dirties my tub. but they do WONDERS at exfoliating and healing.

SCENTSATIONAL

Lately my scent has actually been Glossier’s Body Hero Oil Wash . I live for the neroli scent in that product, therefore making me indulge in Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino. The scent transports me from sticky, steamy NYC, to Somewhere in Northern Italy.

MAKEUP MANUAL

Makeup has been kept very light this season. For work I’m barefaced. For the evening, if I get pulled out of my cozy bed for a glass of rosé at Sel Rose, I’d opt for NARS Tinted Moisturizer, and Concealer, FENTY Matte Match Stix to try and lightly contour to slenderize my face a bit, Marc Jacobs Bronzer, NYX Brow Pencil, Glossier Boy Brow, Glossier Dusk Cloud Paint. MAC Stripdown lip pencil paired with any of my many shimmery, clear glosses. I usually end with a wing and/or mascara but if I’m feeling it, I’d throw on some shadow and demi wispies. Of course I add some glow, Colourpop Loose Highlighters are a fave at the moment for a pretty subtle iridescence, I love the way the sun reflects off of it.

Did you know that choosing a calming color on your nails can help with anxiety when you glance down at your nail? I find this to be accurate. My favorite color is Periwinkle, which as you know is a super calming shade of blue therefore Floss Gloss’s “95% Angel” is my go-to, signature polish.

MANE TAME

I don’t straighten my hair unless I’m going to the salon for a trim and  undercut upkeep. It’s WAY too hot and my edges will curl up in .3 seconds. I simply wash the stress flakes away, bless you ORIBE SERENE SCALP Shampoo and Conditioner for keeping my scalp free of Frosted Flakes. I like to go in with a OUAI Trifecta of Rose Hair & Body Oil, Leave-in Conditioner and a few sprays of "Sun of a Beach" to naturally lighten up my strands to look Sunkissed, I also love to use Kristin Ess Weightless Air Dry Creme. I honestly have no patience for my hair in the summertime, so I keep it as minimal as possible.

VITAL BEAUTY

I am someone who deals with anxiety and depression. I have my moments and with all that is happening in this country, it's not helping. I try my best to aid myself when the lows hit. I find that I must separate myself in order to RECHARGE and FOCUS on MYSELF. Sometimes we care about people so much and want to be there for them that to the point that we exhaust ourselves, sacrificing our inner peace and happiness in the process. It is absolutely vital for me to be pull myself away and take a break. I must do this because if I don’t it makes me resent people and I don’t have it in me to carry around that type of baggage. It does get lonely, especially if you’re like me and don’t have anyone to confide in and/or fear of being a burden to others. You’re on your own and you figure out ways to aid yourself during this time alone. I like to write my thoughts down and sometimes tear up the paper so I can just release all of that bullshit in my head, Keeping shit internalized is a NO for me. Small things help me out so much. Moments like  the way the sun creeps through my window and hits my sheets in the morning, make me feel good about taking on the day.

MY SELF CARE TIPS

JOURNALING - Write those thoughts down! Release that negativity lingering in your mind, causing you to overthink.

BULLET JOURNALING - I find that organization and planning calms my anxiety.

SUMMER READING LIST - Getting lost in a fictional story distracts you from your own, like a tiny escape from reality.

BINGE ON A SHOW - There's nothing wrong with binging on entertainment once in a while. May I recommend GLOW

MAKE A SOOTHING SUMMER PLAYLIST - Believe it or not, Music has healing powers!

GO FOR A POWER WALK - A physical way to release those lingering thoughts on overdrive.

AT HOME SPA - Pair a face mask with that journaling, reading or bingeworthy show.

CALM APP - I recommend this to everyone. I have used mine everyday for the past few years. The sound of rain brings me peace.

LIGHT A CANDLE - I find this to be such a soothing luxury. My favorite candle is ASH from BOY SMELLS

*Professional Help - Sometimes you reach a point where being there for yourself just isn’t enough and THAT IS OKAY. There is nothing wrong with seeking help from a professional. I’ve done it a few times and I feel so much better afterwards.

Take care of yourself. Until Next time...

Basic Skincare Guide: Men Summer 2018

@bufferingbetty

Clean up + Glow up

A friend asked for skin care advice focusing on the basics with extra attention paid to protection from sun exposure + and clearing blackheads.

The actual message I sent him on facebook with an apology because I don't think he knew what he was getting himself into when he asked for 'basic' skin care advice.

You: male, normal skin, late 20s, morning shower person, more likely to shop at the drugstore or stores like Target + Walmart
Job: outside most of the day
Concerns: clearing blackheads, sun protection
Skin care Knowledge:slim to none

Will not spend more than 2 minutes on skin care

Since his skin gets a lot of sun exposure, skin care is important for making sure he is comfortable with how his skin looks and feels.

Key Skin Care Steps:

Exfoliate
Cleanse
Hydrate
Protect
Lip balm

Brands to check out:

These brands are gentle and great for sensitive skin. Usually no harsh perfumes
-Aveeno (the positively radiant line is my favorite)
-Simple

Exfoliate:

It gets off all the dead skin and helps clear out blocked pores that have whiteheads and blackheads. Try to do it for 5-10 seconds on each part of your face: each cheek, forehead, nose + chin. Exfoliators with a sand like grit work best. Larger particles just sort of scratch your skin and will cause irritation after sun exposure. This should be done twice a week but never more than 3x a in a week. Over exfoliating your skin will cause breakouts.

Aveeno® Positively Radiant® Skin Brightening Daily Scrub
**don’t use it daily. Ignore the rules. 2x a wk! Or every 3-4 days.

Cleanse:

If there is one thing you do know, it's how to wash your face. If you feel like you have oily skin, use a gel cleanser. Dry skin, use a cream cleanser. If you're skin feels sort of tight + itchy after you’ve washed it, you have dry skin. Because you spend a lot of time in the sun, look for something gentle. Usually cleansing once a day is fine unless you are super sweaty or fell in the dirt.

Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash

Hydrate:

Even if you have a hydrating cleanser, still apply even a light moisturizer. It is your new BFF. We are not teenagers anymore. When you're rounding 30, it's time to start the 'preservation process.' If you've met people who are about your age but you could've sworn they had at least a decade on you, it's because they did not hydrate. Sure, there are hereditary factors to how we age, but we all have hereditary factors. Some of us just manage them a little better.

Aveeno® Smart Essentials™ Daily Nourishing Moisturizer Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30

* Tip with sunblock: SPF, while incredibly necessary, it can be drying for your skin over time. If you are using a sunblock and notice your skin is looking flaky, mix your sunblock with your moisturizer, about half and half, so you get the best of both worlds.

Protect:

Do. Not. Neglect. This. Step. You will age like milk in the sun. Even if you don’t see a burn, you are burning your skin. Don’t forget your ears, neck, and hands. .

Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sensitive Lotion - SPF 50
I use baby stuff all the time, doesn't matter that you're grown

Lip Balm:

Again, we ain't 22 no more. Your lips will age just as fast as the skin under our eyes. Use anything without petroleum. While it feels good and does work, it also stops your skin’s natural moisture production. Only use it to heal the skin, not for daily use.

Kiss My Face Sport Lip Balm SPF 30

Avoid:

2-in-1 products: I say this because tons of products marketed toward males have this ‘nifty’ little feature that is good for no one. If you wanted to get a cleanse + exfoliate type of product to just use daily, you would just be doing more harm than good for your skin. Since you get sun everyday + facial hair grooming (however often you do it), treat your skin as if it were sensitive even if you don't see any redness or inflammation. Separate products are better so you can balance how often you are doing each step.

Pore strips + peeling masks: products like the Biore strips or peeling masks that remove blackheads are good in a situation if you are going to an event and want to style on the crowd with a fresh face. But overuse (daily or even weekly) will just make the pores on your face larger over time. Which will just make blackheads and whiteheads more visible.

Foaming anything: products that foam have a lot of alcohol so it just dries out the skin overtime. I don't even understand why they're made.

It's OK to

Ignore some directions: I’m thinking about exfoliators again because people tend to over do it. Even if a product says it is ok for daily use, it is not. It’s too much! Very harsh on your skin especially after the sun.

You feeling fancy + want to add a night time routine?

Cleanse - if you cleanse at night, you don't have to cleanse in the morning unless you’re like feeling kinda sweaty.

Hydrate - same as day time

Eye cream- Again, we ain't 22 no more. You can also mix this with your SPF and wear it during the day.

Burt's Bees® Eye Cream for Sensitive Skin

Extra Extra fancy + want to take a product with you during the day in case you feel sweaty + gross?

Cleansing wipes
Any micellar water cleansing wipes are great because you don't have to wash it off. Feels great to remove any sweat and dirt. Most of them are makeup removing wipes. But many people just use them after a work out.

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes

Hydrate
Put some of your moisturizer in a little travel tube or jar.

Final Touches

Hydrate + Soothe

Exactly what your skin needs after sun exposure. You can use hydrating sheet masks multiple times a week. It gives your skin instant results. They aren't lasting results but they do help and don't cause damage over prolonged use.

Tony Moly I'm Real Aloe Sheet Mask
Put this in the refridgorator for 15 minutes before use for the ultimate experice.

Over night treatment

You got pimples that killing your vibe? These can help and are available at Ulta. If you overuse either of them, your skin will get dry and flaky.

Mario Badescu Plastic Bottle Drying Lotion
Dont shake it. Take a q-tip and dip it in the sediment and put in on the pimple over night. Dries out the gross stuff so it heals faster

End of Day Treatment:

Not every day. An end of day treatment can be something that preps the skin for the week ahead.

Origins Travel Size Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask
If you feel a pimple beneath the skin, this mask works to bring it out. It doesn't cause breakouts but it will bring the excess bacteria to the surface and form a pimple. It is good to use a few days before a special event to help make a pimple heal more quickly. It can be used over a specific pimple or all over the face. Use it about once a week on your nose and chin, or where ever you get blackheads and whiteheads, to clear your skin. Put a warm wet  towel over your skin for a few minutes to open up the pores then apply the mask. Once it is dry, use a warm wet towel again to remove it.

Now GO + get shmexy
